Hello-Hello, today our post is brief, we are hoping to enjoy a bit of the holiday ourselves.
We thought some of you would be interested in the upcoming Lilly Pulitzer Estate Auction. First we’ll update what’s happened with Lilly’s house, we’ve had a few messages/emails asking if we knew what had transpired with the property. The house has been sold, more from the Palm Beach Daily News.
…the 1.3-acre property sold this week for a recorded $8.2 million. The buyer was a trust in the name of Joan Granlund, the first wife of Palm Beach billionaire Bill Koch.

The listing agents for the house were Lilly’s children, Liza Pulitzer and Peter McKim Pulitzer, they are both with Brown, Harris, Stevens. Some background from the Daily News article.
Lilly Pulitzer Rousseau told the Daily News in 2010 that her husband, who died in 1993, had brought the property to her attention when they were house-hunting in the early 1980s.
“Enrique and I had just sold our house on the lake, and we were just looking,” she said. “Enrique found this, and when I saw it, I said, ‘Oh my God. We are going to have to build,’ because we fell in love with the property. It was a tropical oasis, really beautiful — specimen trees, huge banyans, orange trees and a little stream. There were a Chinese garden and an orchard — and a service road coming through to the ocean. Unbelievable.”

Pulitzer and her husband, the late Enrique Rousseau, completed their custom house in 1983 — part of a nine-bedroom compound designed for indoor-outdoor living amid densely landscaped gardens that the fashion icon often described as “a jungle.”
The family is pleased the home will be renovated and the property kept intact, Liza Pulitzer said.
“We’re excited to see her bring the home back to life. And Mom would be so thrilled that she has chosen to do it,” Pulitzer said Friday.

The sale is being handled by Leslie Hindman, an auction house we’re familiar with. The firm was founded in Chicago, and is considered the premier auction house in the Midwest; they also have offices in Denver, Detroit and Naples, Florida. The company’s newest saleroom is in West Palm Beach, it opened late last year. The West Palm site is where the Lilly Estate Auction will be held on February 22nd. Highlights from the collections being offered in January include a Tiffany Studios Bronze and Nautilus Shell Desk Lamp, with an estimate of $5,000-7,000; a Royal Copenhagen Flora Danica Partial Dinner Service, with an estimate of $25,000-35,000; an Italian Sterling Silver Six Piece Tea and Coffee Service, Buccellati, with an estimate of $5,000-7,000; and a Meissen Porcelain Fourteen-Piece Monkey Band, with an estimate of $6,000-8,000.

The Monkey Band sounds fun, and very Lilly. For anyone not familiar with these little creatures, we share two Meissen Monkey Band figurines from an entirely different auction; by no means are we saying Lilly’s collection has pieces identical to these, they’re merely examples of the genre.
