Hello-Hello, and Happy Friday to all of our cherished readers.
We are brief today, there’s so much going on at The Princess, life at The Prepatorium has become busier than ever. We begin with a look at an upcoming auction that caught our eye, the lots are all dolls from the Vintage and Collector Barbie & Friends Auction November 21st.
This is Lot #1, Barbie and Ken Tie the Knot. More specifically, “Swirl ponytail Barbie, wearing Bride’s Dream #947 (1963-1965),” says ”I do” to painted hair, bendable knee Ken-looking dapper in his Tuxedo #787(1961-1965)”.
And guess who did the honors? From the Lot description: “Presiding is Ken’s twin…,” I had no idea Ken had a twin! Look at the detail on the dolls, Barbie’s pearls and grosgrain ribbon hair bow were sweet.
Midge and Allan also attended the wedding, more from the auction catalog: “Titian Midge almost out-shines the bride in her Campus Sweetheart #1616 (1965) gown. She is escorted by Allan wearing Victory Dance #1411 blazer and vest with gray slacks. Could they be next?”
I didn’t realize there were so many “Barbie as historical figure’ dolls, below we show Marie Antoinette. From the catalog description: “Vinyl limited edition Barbie created by Mattel from a portrait painted by Louise Elisabeth Vigee-Lebrun. Carrying two porcelain roses…”.
As always, I am amazed at the level of detail on some of these dolls, Marie Antoinette’s jewelry and porcelain roses are good examples of the microscopic work done over the years.
Our next lot demonstrates my woeful lack of Barbie education, I didn’t know there was someone named “Gene” on Planet Barbie. This is Lot #400, Gene Doll with Accessories.
Lot #353 made me sad for Barbie and Ken. Did no one give them monogrammed towels as a wedding present…? How does something so ghastly happen?
You can see all of the lots here, I believe online bidding may already be underway.

Our other item today, a quick peek at Kate Spade’s new collaboration with Swarovski. Last night Kate Spade celebrated the collection launch with special Puttin’ on the Glitz windows at its Madison Avenue flagship.
This is described as a “very limited edition” collection.
The line is named “All Aglow,” and it uses glittering Swarovski crystals on a variety of items. Perhaps my favorite – the glasses.
There are just 14 pieces in the group. Apparel includes a jacket trimmed with the shiny stones, as well as a shimmering dress.
There are also shoes.
I bet these pieces look amazing in person. Hmmm. A reconnaissance mission may be in order, for educational purposes only.
May your weekend shine even brighter than the Kate Spade pieces.
